This video is a slightly sped up version of me using the sub woofer rig I set up to monitor the changes taking place during the painting. The rig is modeled after researching cymatics studies but had to be modified to be more conducive to the viscosity of the paint. The low frequency sounds resonate, moving and shaping the paint which disperses slowly into individual waves. Depending on the sounds I use, various anomalies occur, sometimes geometric soothing forms at others quite violent blobs and splatters. Sounds include low synth drones, bi-aural tones or live instrumental and vocal set ups with several people. During live performances a video camera is placed above the painting and project for all to experience. This specific piece was created using a consistent thumping dance beat (the sound is currently removed). I will upload finished pieces in the near future. The variations are multitudinal, inspiring an investigation into the microcosmic and its affects on the macro and bodily worlds we inhabit. It's interesting to think about the water retention and vibrations that occur in our own bodies by the sounds and noises transmitted around us endlessly.
